Weekly hot picks

Three cars worth investigating across Europe. These are editorial model guides, not sale advertisements. Individual vehicles need proof of manufacture date and an independent import check.

PICK 01 · FRANCE

Renault Clio V6

Renault Clio V6

A small hatch with its engine behind the seats.

Mid-mounted 3.0-litre V6230 hp in the original versionRear-wheel drive

Why it matters

Renault Sport took an everyday Clio and moved the engine behind the driver, replacing the rear seats. The wide body and compact footprint make it one of the most unusual European performance cars of its era. Renault dates the original concept to 2000; phase and individual build date matter more than an advertisement’s model year.

It is a distinct European-market experience: unusual packaging, a naturally aspirated V6 and a car that looks like no ordinary hatchback.

What to verify on an actual car

  • Confirm the VIN, engine and build month from Renault documentation.
  • Check accident repairs, body alignment and cooling-system history.
  • Compare Phase 1 and later Phase 2 specifications before paying a premium.

PICK 02 · GERMANY

Audi RS 4 Avant (B5)

Audi RS4 Avant B5

The original RS 4 made fast wagons impossible to ignore.

2.7-litre twin-turbo V6380 PS / 280 kWAvant body only

Why it matters

The first RS 4 brought Audi’s quattro performance formula to the compact estate. Audi says sales began in June 2000 and identifies the original car as an Avant with a Cosworth-modified V6 biturbo. That makes early examples well past the federal age threshold, while the precise date still needs documentation for any individual car.

It combines practical estate-car packaging with a factory high-performance drivetrain and an RS model that was not originally sold in the United States.

What to verify on an actual car

  • Verify the RS 4 identity and original engine specification.
  • Review turbo, timing-belt, drivetrain and cooling service records.
  • Inspect for undocumented tuning and confirm emissions eligibility if the engine was changed.

PICK 03 · GERMANY

BMW M3 (E46)

BMW E46 M3

The straight-six M3 benchmark.

3.2-litre S54 inline-six343 PS / 252 kW in BMW’s European specificationProduction 2000–2006

Why it matters

BMW M describes the E46 M3 as a high-revving straight-six performance coupé, produced from 2000 through 2006. It was sold in the US as well, so the reason to shop Europe is a specific car’s condition, provenance, color, equipment or specification rather than simple US-market absence.

A strong comparison candidate for an enthusiast who values detailed provenance and a particular European specification.

What to verify on an actual car

  • Confirm the VIN, build date, drivetrain and market specification.
  • Review documented maintenance, engine work and any track use.
  • Budget for an independent inspection of body, suspension and drivetrain.
